Today the NHL revealed the leaders for the 2012 NHL All-Star Game through the first week of fan balloting. Erik Karlsson is unbelievably leading the league in votes and Daniel Alfredsson is first amongst forwards in voting. While it's a fantastic start and could potentially go a long way to seeing these players be included in the ASG festivities, fans need to vote and vote often.
To vote for the 2012 All-Star Game, you have to register at NHL.com.
Below are the official results thus far:
This voting is so bogus. There is a disproportionate amount of Ottawa senators players on this list. And Gonchar?! Who would vote for this guy? I bet Bettman has the vote count pre-determined.
As much as I want to see Alfie in the starting lineup, I still maintain that the voting system for the All-Star game is one of the bigger jokes around. Case and Point - Crosby who had his first game back yesterday, is #9 on the list. That said - PRAISE ALFIE!
@The_W00dsman Best points-per-game in the league!
@The_W00dsman It's always been a name recognition kind of thing over merit. Besides the point, I wouldn't write Crosby out of earning a spot. There's still plenty of time for him to put together some decent numbers.
@Nichols6thSens@Ajiva I don't disagree with anything either of you said. Crosby will probably merit the spot by the time the All-Star comes around.Still doesn't take away from the fact that the All-Star game is a farce by all accounts. (Wow - I sound like an old man!).
Just have the skills competition (hardest shot, fastest skater, accuracy shooting, breakaway). None of this 'skip the puck over a board into a miniature net' stuff.
