Oh look an emotionally biased fan who doesn't even close to comprehend the long-term problems of this franchise speaking out emphatically in embarrassing fashion. Pardon me if I'm not amused. Murray has made basically one decision I've disagreed with (without using hindsight) and that was trading Heatley. I wanted to stick it to him, but hey I wasn't in the room and I don't know how the players felt about it. Heater is only on pace for 30 goals this year and Michalek is four years younger. The salary cap ripped this team apart in combination with Ottawa fumbling guys like Chara and Havlat away without getting elite prospects or high picks in return. The management at the time chose short-term gains (playoff run) over long-term stability (making sure these guys didn't walk for nothing). When you bleed a team of it's elite players without getting anything re-stocked for the future it's going to be destined to fail. We have MUCKLER to thank for this. Blaming anyone else is just stupidity.
Heard Simpson talking Sens on CFRA this morning but only caught the last minute or two. I presume it must have been related to his letter. Anyone catch the whole interview?
@Nichols6thSens Thanks for the link, Simpson is a pretty good spokesman for the fans who want a change of direction.
I'm all for letting the organization know what you're thinking, but throwing ridiculous demands out there and then making them all public under the "endorsement" of a national newspaper is a little ridiculous. Setting an arbitrary deadline of May 1st and then making a stupid suggestion to either take Pierre McGuire or whoever else happens to be available by that arbitrary date is a bit over the top.
I'm still baffled with how poorly this team has played despite the players that we have. I don't think it's purely the roster, there's something else wrong. Coaching? Maybe. Effort on the ice? Definitely. But this isn't all on the GM. We need something to change, but really, let's try to avoid calling for heads here. At least specific heads by specific dates.
@Farqs Sure, there's lots of reasons for this years disgraceful squad, but they almost all come back to the GM. Sub-par goaltending? Murray brought in band-aid boy Leclaire, and felt Elliott was capable enough to back-up the oft-injured netminder. Lack of scoring depth - almost every forward we have was signed or given contract extensions by Murray. Defense? Murray brought in Kuba, Campoli, Gonchar, let Volchie walk etc. Coaching? Clouston is Murray's 3rd strike as coach. I believe Muckler got this train-wreck started, but Murray's had 3 years to write the ship but has instead driven it right into an iceberg. Simpsons letter may be over the top, but at least it will hopefully let the organization know that fans will not stand for Murrays "1-year rebuild" which basically means a continuation of his quick-fix signings. Murray's outright refusal to admit any mistakes and his barrage of excuses are reason alone for him to be fired.
@slavitch As long as the Euge catches wind of it one way or another, I'm happy.
@firmverm Trust me, every reporter in Canada knows about it. Whether they print it is another matter, but it does seed a meme.
I concur with Jeff, this organization is totally fucked up and peddeling this "few parts" away from a contederder shit and the fans are buying it because they are fucking retarded. I have NO faith in Murray starting the rebuild and the new GM should be in place for the deadline. I am really really getting sick of this management. And to not consider trading Alfredsson? This is a business not a fucking playhouse.
Ok, Fisher, if someone is willing to swallow his contract. A Nashville-level 1st and 2nd rounder, I agree.
@slavitch yeah and I remember Hal Gill get a 2nd and 5th...
Andy Sutton 2nd
Like Fisher is a 2nd centerman that can help a contender for the cup! don't u remember FIsher hitting 3 people in like 7 seconds in the stanley cup playoffs. He was probably one of the best playoff in that series
@OneYearRebuild I was thinking the exact same thing.
1st rounders? For whom? Unless there's a busload of hot teenage girls in acid wash jeans waiting to be shipped out from Shawville to Glenn Sather's Secret Love Moon (hat tip to whomever gets the movie reference) the best they'll get is a mid 2nd.
Word of advice: There are no teenage virgins in Shawville.
Murray is not fired because of all the prospect he and his team got for the sens! Thats why and all he is gonna do as a GM from now on is to sell and try to steal some 1st rounders and 2nd, he is gonna stay on the team as an advisor and the scouting staff will stay the same. I beleive in what Murray is doing maybe not on the trade and sign part but as a drafter, he's the best, Muckler **** us over when he was the gm no player between 23-28 is good on the sens or remarkable! People are starting to piss me off qith all that BS
I don't really understand... Murray is from Shawville and has 30 years experience in the NHL. Why would a credible news source like Jeff Simpson have any weight with management? I mean...Simpson isn't a good Ottawa Valley Boy, so is his statement credible in the least?
The season ends in mid-April. To be honest, the #Sens can have an interim GM after the trade deadline as it's all washing towels after that.
