It figures that shortly after I publish the Nabokov piece, Hockeybuzz's Eklund throws some excrement at the wall in hopes that it sticks. In his most recent article, the anonymous rumo(u)r monger suggested that: the Sens may be considering an offer for Daniel Alfredsson. The offer is rumored to be coming from a Western contender.
Alfie's the latest Senators player to have his name bandied about in rumours and although Eklund's track record is less than Peter Regin's shooting percentage, I'm curious to hear what my readers have to say regarding the possibility that Alfie could be amenable to a trade. So email the6thsens at live dot com and let us know what your thoughts are regarding Alfie.
Would you be bothered by a trade? Would you be okay with Alfie wanting a chance to play for a Cup? Do you want some draft picks and prospects? Would you look at players like Ray Bourque and say if guys like that can be dealt, so can Alfie?
Let us know how you feel and with the emails that are received, we'll publish them on the website.
It's simple: if Alfie wants to retire a Senator, he will. If he wants to go to a contender, I say do it in a heartbeat. I want to see him hoist that cup and would never begrudge him leaving town because it's not going to happen in Ottawa.
I think it's a win/win for fans. If he doesn't want to go, he's retires having only ever been a Senator; very classy not to mention rare. If he wants a shot at Lord Stanley, we should get great return value. Vancouver would make me excited instead of angry if Alfie were on an all Swede line with the twins.
Either way, I'm a happy camper, but I must admit a trade seems best for the long term future of the franchise.
Well if Greztsky can get traded then anybody can. I would prefer it be near the end of his contract.
IF it was I would want a 1st round pick + a very good forward prospect at the minimum.
It would have to be for a large return. I'm tired of Ottawa getting hosed on deals
@Sandysensfan Sandy, you probably could ask for a larger return on the basis that it's not a rental. A team could acquire Alfredsson for more than half a season. (Of course, that could change if he decided to retire.)
I'm all for it. Yes, he has been the heart and soul of the team but at some point we all need to move on -- it's hard to do.
Let's face reality here. I think we're going to need at least 2 more seasons to reload the team into a decent, good, playoff team again. By that the time, Alfie will be getting real close to the big FOUR-OH. We need to start building for the future instead of looking what could have been in the past.
Also, there's more than a few times in dire need of a winger that fits Alfies role too. The Blues, Rangers and Kings all come to mind off the top of my head. Of course in a cap world no trade is really that ideal and we need to keep that in mind too.
