Our Running Senators Thread For the Night

UPDATE 9:45p.m.: Looks like this ESPN report has no more legs than the Garrioch report last night. ESPN was able to reach Murray for comment tonight and he had this to say:

""It's simply not true," Murray told ESPN.com Thursday night . "I've had conversations with teams today but still I'm not close to a deal [involving Heatley]." Read it here.

Sounds like we should call it a night. Bust. Maybe tomorrow. Hopefully better return and better results. I think this is a case of where there's smoke....You get the idea.

UPDATE 9:33p.m.: Trusted news source and friend of the 6th Sens James Gordon of the Citizen has confirmed via twitter that Heatley will not be at the golf tournament tomorrow as not to distract from the charity. The first of many canadian respected media types starting to weigh in on the "trade". We'll see.

UPDATE 9:16p.m.: Same link as before, GM's are denying it. I kinda hope so, I like both the rumored players coming to Ottawa it's just not good enough return for Heatley. Not to mention the contract issues (ie. pending UFA and overpaid).

UPDATE 8:54p.m.: ESPN is reporting the deal is done. Link here.

I'm sure, much much more to come.

This is what we'll be using to update you readers through the night:

Dany Heatley will probably be a Shark tonight or tomorrow. ~ John Buccigross' Twitter.

Lehner reminds me of Steve Mason. ~ Amateur Announcer on Rogers 22 during the Sens vs Leafs prospects tilt

7-0 for the Senators after two in the prospects game. Standing out for me thus far: Condra, Hoffman, Svendson. I'd mention a defensemen but the bulk of the game has been spent in the Leafs end.

TSN has released the terms of the contract that Mike Comrie has signed with the Edmonton Oilers -- 1 year, $1.125M

The only thing missing from the background of Buccigross' twitter account is a picture of a unicorn and Edward.

Agreed, surprised he didn't opt for the 'warhol effect' for his picture. Hard to take it seriously.

If Frolov came signed to an extension, I'd probably be cool with the deal.

We'd have four 70+ players (Spezza, Heatley, Frolov, Kovalev) and three 40-55 point players (Foligno, Stoll, Fisher). Doesn't look too bad on paper and would give us that serious depth we had pre-lockout.

It's not perfect, but Stoll and Frolov are both about 27 I think, and that's young enough. Stoll would go well with Fisher, and Frolov has never played with talent like Spezza before. It could work out very well.

It's that GOD DAMNED EXTENSION PART

That Alfredsson is on our team.

So lets replace Heatley with Alfredsson and call it even.

Tampering...

There is a source in the League that is tampering right now, and they better watch their ass, or they might find it getting reamed in court.

Heatley...

If he stays or goes I don't care. If he goes all I care about is good returns and if he stays all I care about is the team doing well, with him or despite him. All that matters to me is the Ottawa Senators doing well in this whole debacle.

I'm wondering how I should act next Saturday night. I have seats in a private box for the Sens-Habs game, and even though it's a work function, I can't decide if I should bring any rotten tomatoes for Dany.

Part of me wants him back in the lineup... or his 40+ goals, at least.

The other part of me would love nothing more than to toss said tomatoes at him and boo him relentlessly.

Of course, the fact that I'll be there in a work capacity pretty much eliminates any chance of me throwing anything to ice level.

I just want this whole thing to end.
