Headlines
The Sun ran with the fabulous headline 'Sens' dream takes a 'Caning'. Too bad for Ottawa writers that Senators doesn't rhyme with waterboarding. Here are a few others I think should have been considered:
-Sens play like they're on Cane-a-bis
-Sens playoff hopes Cane-celled
-Sens get some bad co-Canes
-Sens cant remove Cane-ker
Rolly Polly
The Ottawa Sun is also currently running a poll on their sports page asking if it was a mistake to trade Antoine Vermette? The only possible replies are 'yes' and 'no'. Unfortunately for this writer there is no 'a mistake yes, but as in not trading him and his a bunch of his friends earlier.'Frankly, Ottawa isn't a contender with or without him. He's hardly the piece that's gonna keep the titanic afloat nor be the one to sink it all by himself. He's what I like to refer to as an NDP MP. There's more than a few of them, but they dont really do much one way or another. Just nice for our collective social conscious to have them around. If he wasn't traded, Columbus would have moved on without him and we would be left staring at a poll that reads 'Is a goaltender Ottawa's off season priority?'
Playoffs! (for Bingo)
Looks like some scheduling issues reported by Brucey Gee could see the Bingo Sens play at least a few playoffs games at Scotia Bank Place. Sounds great to me. It will give me a chance to improve my Bell heckles for next season. It will also give Don Brennan the opportunity to extend the honeymoon for another week at least. I for one am in favour of this, it'll be nice to see Lee cost another team some games for once (up until a few weeks ago was a huge supporter of Lee, but he needs a slap on the wrist to get his shit together. Maybe playing with Bell for a few games will make him realize he's hit rock bottom and needs to pick up the slack).
The Temp
"GM Bryan Murray told Sun Media he expects to speak with owner Eugene Melnyk in the next couple of weeks about the possibility of removing the interim tag from Clouston's title." Bruce Garrioch.
Well alert the man/woman involved in replacing plaques on doors and get the white out ready for a long night with a stack of non-refundable business cards. My girlfriend pointed out to me the other night that the writing has been on the wall for a while as Clouston has suddenly inherited some new suits, at least new to the Ottawa viewing public. He no longer dresses like Dwight from the office. Dudes don't splurge on new threads unless they're ready to party, have a hot date or came into some cash. I assume he's be back based on his suits. Imagine wasting all those outfits and wrinkling them on coach buses on empty interstates with no press coverage - all dressed up and no one cares. I for one wholly support this decision to keep Clouston on next season. Although an interesting strategy for Murray would be to buy himself (and his job) some time by NOT removing the interim title from Clouston and bringing him back next year anyways. That way when the season goes onto the rocks before Christmas he can simply say he's finally found an appropriate replacement for the temp and buy himself another off season. In Ottawa, its always about the semantics.
Fantasy
Graeme and I are looking to gauge the interest of the viewing public here for the possibility of a 6th Sens fantasy hockey league for next season. Hopefully the league winner is from out of town so we don't have to have an uncomfortable forced meeting with them to deal with prizes. Maybe the prize will just be no awkward meeting and we mail you four bottles of Coors light and my Jason Williams Senators jersey. Drop us an email if you're interested in playing but not meeting us for any reason.
Sorry Graeme wasn't around yesterday or today, he is having an enema (I'm not even kidding, he's gonna kill me when he reads this).
