Yeah, so I Google Image searched "impossible dream" and this is the third picture that came up. Eat your heart out MLK.
After spending the majority of the weekend away from my computer, it was a bit disappointing to see the lack of Senators-related news on the Interweb. In fact, things were so barren, I actually contemplated writing a game recap of the SO victory over Pittsburgh. Crippled by an environment that lacked intelligible information, I figured it'd be better to sleep on it and begin anew in the morning.
When I awoke this morning, I quickly went through my daily routine of enjoying a coffee while quickly perusing the websites of the local newspapers. As I browsed through the Ottawa Sun's articles, I realized that I was reading something magical. It was akin to Macaulay Culkin waking up in the movie Home Alone and realizing that he had made his family disappear. Don Brennan had written an original and insightful piece. (Editor's Note: I disagree that Bryan Murray's top priority is to lock up Volchenkov. Personally, I've always been partial to the let's improve the roster school of thought.)
Interestingly, this piece comes a day after Don chewed out Brendan Bell. (Editor's Note: If you're not a Brennan fan, you may want to read this sitting down.)
Brian Lee and Brendan Bell are the only two members of the current Senators lineup who are eligible to participate in the playoffs this spring -- for Binghamton. Both will be expected to give more than they did on Pittsburgh's first goal, when Lee was caught up ice and Bell allowed Eric Godard around him into position for a centring shot that bounced off Jesse Winchester. Eric Godard? The Senators would not have been too thrilled with Bell's performance, nor should they be.So I ask, if the Senators' recent performance can rub off on Don Brennan, shouldn't this be something we can all get behind?
Playoffs?
Ottawa's Got Prospects
While browsing around the Hockey Futures website, there was a piece dedicated to revisiting the 2008 NHL Draft. According to this article, HF asked 22 scouts to gauge the future impact of the 28 players who made their Future Watch 09 prospect list and retrospectively reorganize how last year's draft unfolded.
Interestingly, both Erik Karlsson and Patrick Wiercioch improved their prospect status in the minds of the scouts. However, the article does go out of its way to alert readers to:
Keep in mind this list is based on the blended assessments of 22 scouts and doesn’t take into account team needs or drafting philosophies.Translation: Aside from some scouts liking your team's prospects, this retrospective list doesn't really mean anything. However, we'd really like for you to buy our magazine!
Kudos to Brodeur
I guess I should offer congratulations to Martin Brodeur for tying Patrick Roy's record for career wins. Fitting that it happened in Montreal with Patrick Roy on hand. More impressive is the fact that neither of Roy's sons suckered Brodeur after he had left the ice surface following the victory.
Email of the Day:
I swear, I read that (Don Brennan's take on Bell) and the first thing I thought was that Done was thinking of your criticism when he wrote it. "There Graeme! See! I'm not a Bell fanboi. I criticized him once. See!"
