The Ottawa 67's are taking a new approach to selling the naming rights to the Ottawa Civic Centre. Instead of going to say, the Ottawa Citizen and saying 'want to have your logo on the side of the building? It's just $300,000!' they're holding a lottery of sorts instead. From the team:

Think about it…the Ottawa Civic Centre will become the YOUR COMPANY NAME Centre! Every 67's home game that's promoted on television, newspaper or radio will reference your company, and the arena will be well branded with your company name and logo, inside and out. That's approximately $300,000 dollars in unique, incredible publicity!

Here's how it works…

Companies can enter the contest for a $1,000 fee which also gives them $1,000 in 67's tickets and a suite night. Some restrictions apply based on Contest Rules and Regulations. On the 67's regular season opening night, September 25th, a draw will be held on the ice during the first intermission and the winning company will be announced. Then, from October 15th through July 1, 2010, the Ottawa Civic Centre will be referred to by the winning company's name.

After reading this, Tim and I came up with this pipe dream. Register a company called Trade Brennan. Ask our readers to donate and help raise the 1,000 dollars to enter the contest. Once the money has been collected, we'd redistribute the tickets back to our readers. And finally, we could hold a lottery of our own, so that our readers could join Tim and I for the suite night.
