Another day ...If you're confused about the July 1st deadline for Heatley's $4M, join the crowd. However, it's not the actual deadline that's the confusing part, it's the lack of due diligence on the part of the Senators and Heatley's reps to actually know when the deadline is. Imagine Ottawa had traded their $7.5M, out of shape sniper for another out of shape player in Penner (and bad cap hit), a 40-50 point guy in Cogliano and Smid, a defenseman who likely will never reach his full potential? All that good faith and trust that had been built up from the Entry Draft would have been gone.
Is this D-Day for Dany Heatley?
Who knows?
Something has gone awry here. Now, Heatley and the league contend they have until midnight tonight to complete a deal for the sniper.
Look, this is all about Heatley wanting to go to the New York Rangers. His camp was trying to broker a deal last night, as reported by Sun Media.
They could not get it worked out. Now, we wait. Heatley really doesn't get it. How could he turn down that deal? He can't come back and play
Oh, he might go crawling back to the Oilers today. That's a strong possibility. Should make for a great season for him.
If this deal doesn't get done, the Senators might not be able to give Heatley away.

If you're going to trade Dany Heatley for what equates to next to nothing, make sure you don't take a shitty cap hit back -- Penner's $4.25M for the next 3 seasons. And use Heatley's cap space to test the free agent waters. And what's up with the love for Smid? Isn't the blueline crowded enough? Besides, we already have 3-4 guys who we're still hoping to pan out (Ie. Campoli, Lee, Schubert).
So we sit and wait. Naively hoping that Murray can miraculously use these next 13 hours to try and get other teams to up the ante.
And speaking of upping the ante, I can't wait to see what ol' Ginger Balls signs for this afternoon. Ah well, without Neil cue the descent into mediocrity!!!
