With all due respect to Kyle Quincey, that was quite the fleece job by Dean Lombardi ce soir. If you haven't heard, the Los Angeles Kings acquired Ryan Smyth from the Colorado Avalanche for Tom Preissing, Kyle Quincey and a 5th round pick. (Or as I like to call it, Kyle Quincey and sweet fuck all.)

Even though Sens fans can embrace the fact that very few palatable assets were exchanged in this deal, the acquisition of Ryan Smyth potentially ruins the one of the only remaining destination on Heatley's list of preferred destinations.

But who knows, maybe this trade for Smyth means that Lombardi has finally broken the seal. Maybe, just maybe, with the sweet taste of success, Lombardi can lower his guard and his team's standards for stand up guys.

Fuck, on the other hand, maybe the acquisition of Ryan Smyth is the best news that Bryan Murray could have hoped for. Both Smyth and Heatley have played on enough bad hockey teams that they've had the luxury of playing together on many World Championship teams. It's funny though, while we should be indebted to Heatley for donating his time, only one of the two is nicknamed Captain Canada. Ain't that something?
