Another game, another loss for the Sens, not that we should have expected anything else. The Sens battled to a 3 all tie before a series of turnovers led to the game winning and insurance goals. Ottawa has had a lack of success against Boston in the recent past, but tonight’s game just stung that much more. After a rumor filled and injury riddled 1-6-1 road trip, the Senators are heading home to a confused and disappointed fan base. This swing had even the most optimistic fan thinking “Jesus, we really are fucked!” After seeing Neil, Volchenkov, Lee, Foligno and Bass all miss time due to injury or illness, the trip didn’t just hurt in the standings. This road trip may have been the final indicator that it’s time for the Sens to take steps toward rebuilding. The makeup of this team is not a winning one, so it’s time to make some moves big or small to start the process of injecting some youth and energy into a very stale Senators lineup. It seems as though many players are so comfortable that the team has become more like a country club than a pro hockey team.

Stocking up with prospects and picks is looking like a better idea by the day. With all of the rumors out there, it sounds as if many Senators better not unpack when they get home because they may have become expendable if the team goes into sell mode. Since the Senators have to win seventy percent or so of their remaining games to even make the projected playoff cut, don’t be surprised if a fire sale of sorts starts sooner rather than later. It’s time to play for next year, and maybe a lottery pick.

Tavares Is A Class Act

Knowing that it was time to move on, John Tavares did the right thing in waiving his no-trade clause to get traded to London. The move allowed for the Oshawa Generals to put themselves in a perfect position to rebuild. If only Wade Redden had come to this realization that it was time to move on. Wade should have waived to let the Senators get something for him, but obviously he wasn’t about to do that for the club that gave him so much. Sorry, I know it’s a completely different situation, that’s just the bitter fan in me. Fucking Wade Redden.
