Brian Elliott will make his second straight start for the Senators on Tuesday against the Carolina Hurricanes, while Martin Gerber, his future with the team up in the air, will watch from the press box.

Alex Auld will be the backup.

General manager Bryan Murray said he will watch Elliott play for a couple of games before deciding who will be the two goalies he keeps for the rest of the season.

The implication is that the odd man out — likely Gerber because of his 3.7 million contract — will be waived. Murray said he had no immediate plans to waive Gerber or any other player.

Gerber said he couldn't comment because he hasn't discussed the situation with Murray.

But he had a couple of choice words for the predicament he finds himself in.

"It sucks," he said.

You're right Martin, you have it pretty bad. The team is paying you $3.7 million to sit in the pressbox and watch the goaltender of the future ply his trade and it sucks. I can't wait to hear what you have to say after you've cleared waivers and will be begging a team to pick you up on re-entry. But hey, at least you'll have the luxury of collecting your full salary while you await the expiration of your contract. It sucks indeed.
