With Bryan Murray optioning Martin Gerber to Bingo, three things are obvious:
1) Gerber's hit rock bottom. I'm not sure where he goes from here. I'm getting the same feeling that I had when Mel Gibson started blasting the Jewish community. As I think about it, my thoughts keep getting pervaded by Bob Cole's infamous call "That's Gotta Be It!"
2) Bryan Murray has reason to believe that there's a suitor for Marty. By convincing Gerber to go on a two-week conditioning stint, Murray's essentially bought himself a window of opportunity to work out a trade before having to expose Gerber on the waiver wire and risk losing him for nothing.(Personally, Gerber for nothing does seem like a fair tradeoff.) It's unfortunate because he's so well received by his teammates. It's even more unfortunate that trading a good teammate doesn't necessarily translate into receiving a good draft pick.
3) Sens fans will start hedging bets on how many games it will take before Gerber loses the Binghamton starter's job to Jeff Glass.
