For those of you who are coming off the high of a much-deserved win against the Buffalo Sabres, allow me to be your hookup for a number of Senators related links that may continue to fill your thirst for anything and everything pertaining to your Ottawa Senators.
The Rise and Fall of the Ottawa Senators:
Fresh off the resounding success of the Doug Fischer article comes another Ottawa Citizen piece that outlines the reasons for the Senators demise. Unlike his colleague, this Allen Panzeri piece doesn't contribute anything that most Senators fans already knew. As such, the author comes off as jumping on the nouveau trend to shit on the Senators and management when it's popular (safe?) to do so. I'm finding it amazing how many journalists in this town will shit on the Chara vs Redden decision in a revisionist fashion. I can't recall any standing up at the time and criticizing the decision. In fact, I recall most preaching the company line that after the lockout, the game had changed and Chara could no longer keep up and play the anti-clutch-and-grab style suited to the post-lockout era.
Chris Neil Possibly Kills Own Trade Value:
There was a downside to the Senators’ victory and that was the loss of winger Chris Neil, who left the game after the last play of the second period when he appeared to re-injure his right knee when he hit Sabres defenceman Teppo Numminen. Neil missed six games when he hurt his knee Nov. 15 against the New York Islanders. ~ Chris Stevenson, The Ottawa SunRay Emery's Not Getting Paid:
Who says a recession doesn't affect those with money? According to CBC's second period hotstove segment, Ray Emery hasn't returned to his KHL team over a dispute concerning a difference in the exchange rate of the Russian ruble. With the drop in the exchange rate, apparently Emery is owed close to 30% of his salary. Consequently, Emery has been absent since his team has had a break and as a result, rumors are surfacing that it could help pave the way for a return to the NHL. Interestingly, Al Strachan mentioned that since Emery has a Russian contract, any NHL team that signs him would have to have him clear waivers before he's eligible to play. (Similar to how the Isles brought Wade Dubliewicz back from Europe but he was claimed on waivers by Columbus.) I guess I'd be pissed too if some trainer was trying to put a sponsor's hat on and I wasn't getting paid my due. (This may be the last time you ever hear me stick up for Ray Emery.)
Tim Baines and Don Brennan Debate the Merits of Marriage:
...And Baines comes off as a Playboy.
With Great Success Comes Great Criticism:
Kudos to Ottawa's own Sens Chirp for reaching the big time. While he's (she's?) faced the wrath from the local rumor columnists, he's (she's?) officially gone global with the most recent criticisms coming from Rich Hammond, an accredited member of Los Angeles media.
I'm Waiting On Your Letter:
Peter from the Sens Army blog has busied himself by writing a lot of letters for his No-Habs-No campaign. I can't help but notice that since he started the campaign, the Habs have gone into the tank. Maybe it's just a coincidence, maybe it's not. Either way, it's entertaining to see les Habitants shit the bed during their 100th anniversary.
More Campaigning:
Fresh off the return of the Senators theme song comes a Facebook group dedicated to the return of the original Senators jerseys. If you're interested in checking it out, click here. And while you're at it, join the Official Facebook group of The 6th Sens.
