OTTAWA – Ottawa Senators general manager Bryan Murray announced today the club has signed right-winger Ryan Shannon to a one-year contract. ~ Ottawa SenatorsAwesome news. What can you really say about Ryan Shannon's emergence as a productive NHL-player other than thank fucking God for Cory Clouston and the job he's done since he's taken over. In 2008/09 BC (Before Clouston), the team's secondary scoring was relegated to free-wheeling celebrities. The team's confidence was at an all-time low -- If you were to tell me that the team's best players were going all Dirk Diggler on us, I would have believed it. You know, go home after a loss, look into the mirror and reassure themselves that they're still stars.
Once Hartsburg left the equation, the 2008/09 AC era was born. When Clouston came into town, he brought with him a diminuitive American winger. Because people were too busy asking, "Who the fuck is Cory Clouston?", Shannon's recall from Bingo largely went unnoticed. 8 goals and 12 assists later, we as fans are trying to convince ourselves (naively?) that the trio of Foligno, Fisher and Shannon can function as a productive second line. More importantly, Shannon's emergence gives Bryan Murray some leverage in any Mike Comrie contract negotiations.
