Zdeno Chara, a Norris Trophy Candidate in the post-lockout era? What the fuck happened here? It was never supposed to be like this.

Bear with me as we take a gander down memory lane...

...Remember the year 2006 when it seemed like every NHL pundit, expert, journalist and hack was proclaiming that the Buffalo Sabres were the model franchise of the salary cap era? Remember when those shitty slug jerseys were amongst the highest selling jerseys over at NHL.com? Remember when these bandwagon fans and journalists were fellating over the speed and finesse of guys like Maxime Afinogenov? Remember how this new wave made the Big Z look normal in 3 of 5 games while completely ignoring the fact that he had a bum wrist and the rest of the team looked like shit as well?

I do and I'll never forgive that team for being the measuring stick used by John Muckler to evaluate his personnel.

Ladies and gentlemen, Zdeno Chara, your antithesis of the "New NHL".

Now let's all wallow in self-pity and cry ourselves to sleep.

NOTE: 11:31 PM Martin Havlat just scored the winner against Calgary. My displeasure with Muckler has just grown exponentially more. I'm going to have to go read some prospect analysis of Patrick Wiercioch to make myself feel better about that three-way trade. (And yes, I'm absolutely going to refrain from going to the Binghamton Senators' website to check out Josh Hennessey's line.)
